 Michael Weller
November Teacher of the Month is Mr. Weller

Mr. Michael Weller has developed a presence at Apison Elementary School.  While teaching Physical Education and Health, he has connected with students physically, academically, and emotionally while developing lasting relationships with them that have spanned the space of time.  He is always willing to step in where needed even to the point of mentoring students with challenging behaviors.  Coach Weller’s innovative teaching methods, commitment to student success, and passion for creating a positive learning environment have not gone unnoticed.  His peers and students alike acknowledge the impact he’s made, and it is with great pleasure that we extend this recognition to you.  As a Florida Gators super-fan, Billy Napier once said “We can’t waste a minute blaming or complaining or sulking, thinking about the past.  We have to learn.  We have to change.  We have to adapt.  We have to grow.”  Thank you, Coach Weller, for helping students learn, change, adapt, and grow at Apison.  Today, we celebrate Mr. Michael Weller as the State Farm Teacher of the Month for November.

 Mary Markel
October Teacher of the Month is Mrs. Markel

Mrs. Mary Markel brings a quiet demeanor to the seeming 5th grade chaos around her.  Her grasp of the Language arts curriculum as well as her way of enabling students to believe that they can accomplish anything is so refreshing.  When watching her teach, students hang on every word fearing that something will be missed.  Mrs. Markel has a way of caring for students that helps them to realize possibilities in learning, school, and life.  We’re grateful for Mrs. Markel’s presence here at Apison Elementary School.  Today, we celebrate Mrs. Mary Markel as the State Farm Teacher of the Month for October.

 Madyson Sims
September Teacher of the Month is Ms. Sims

Ms. Madyson Sims is a delight to have as a Kindergarten teacher.  She brings such joy and willingness to teach young minds.  Daily, her smile brightens each child and peer alike.  The students she teaches look forward to her daily presence and the learning yet to unfold.  Ms. Sims has such a quiet ease about her that is emulated by her students.  We’re grateful that she chose to be a part of the work we strive to do at Apison Elementary School.  Today, we celebrate Ms. Sims as the State Farm Teacher of the Month for September.

 April 2023

April Educator of the Month is Mrs. Donna Patton.
Mrs. Donna Patton is such a giving Social Worker.  She gives of her time, energy, expertise, and even her own finances.  When asked if she can support this effort, help with this task, or meet with this student, the answer is always "yes".  The answer is always "yes" because she wants to ensure that she is a vested stakeholder in the social-emotional, academic, and behavioral development and supports for as many students as possible.  Utilizing her connections and networking skills, she obtains needed services and supports for our students and families.  Another clear example of her heart for children, Mrs. Patton has become a foster parent.  For the past three years, she has shared her love for children, desire to ensure their success, and even her home.  Daily, she responds to requests from teachers, administration, and families to ensure that needs are met, connections are made, and children and families are supported.  We're grateful that Mrs. Patton chose Apison and the feeling is mutual!  Today, we celebrate Mrs. Donna Patton as the April Educator of the Month.

Mrs. Painter - December 2022

December Teacher of the Month

Our Teacher of the Month for December is Mrs. Taryn Painter.  Currently, a 3rd Grade ELA and Social Studies teacher, she has embraced teaching and learning of students to look for innovative and engaging ways to bring learning to life.
As a Harry Potter super-fan, she has decorated her classroom and created groups to replicate the different houses.  This by far engages students to compete in interactive ways.  In addition, she incorporates technology in a variety of ways to also meet the needs of students as well as to offer different presentation formats.  As an Innovative Educator Fellow,  Mrs. Painter collaborates with other peers to find ways to extend student learning through technology.  This month, we celebrate Mrs. Taryn Painter.  In the words of Albus Dumbledore, "It is our choices, [Harry], that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities".  Thank you, Mrs. Painter, for choosing Apison to be your Hogwarts in which to serve.

November Teacher of the Month

November Teacher of the Month
State Farm November Teacher of the Month is Mrs. Vandana Taneja who serves as our ESOL Teacher for students who are learning English as a second language.  Mrs. Taneja is very committed to the work and wants all students to thrive and succeed.  Whenever there's an opportunity to volunteer, Mrs. Taneja steps right in to lend a hand.  This willingness to serve also extends beyond the children who receive her services.  Daily she is seen encouraging and motivating students to be STARS:  Safe-Trustworthy-Respectful-Successful.  We're grateful for the continued service Mrs. Taneja provides to our students and school.

Mr. Jason Bevil serves as our 3rd grade Instructional Leader, Tech Coordinator, as well as our after-school enrichment coordinator. He never ceases to amaze us with his dedication for seeking out STEAM opportunities for our students. Mr. Bevil takes the initiative to also connect with parents and businesses to support these enriching experiences financially and as coaches and mentors. Most recently, the Green Prix team he coached won first place at the Chattanooga Green Prix competition on October 28th sponsored by EPB, the Lyndhurst Foundation, and other sponsors!  As a PEF Innovative Educator Fellow, Mr. Bevil is taking his passion and developing it to extend beyond the school walls.
