Thanks to everyone who was able to join in for our meeting today! It was so nice to see their sweet faces. I will try to host these get togethers every couple of days (and the other teachers may as well). We'd love to answer questions, offer suggestions, and just hear how everyone is doing!

Here are some highlights from today's meeting with administration:

*State representatives have introduced legislation to waive testing and the attendance requirement of 180 days for this year. We hope to know something in the next few days.

*Our school will have office hours M-F, 9-11 and 1-3. They will not be available outside these hours.

*The IT department will be distributing Chromebooks to students who do not have access to any other sort of device that allows them to work digitally. Apison WILL be a recipient of these devices. A pickup date/time will be sent out once it is set.

*Meal pickup times have changed. Families in need of meals for their children during the closure may pick up a cold breakfast and lunch from 11-1. The closest pickup location in the Missionary Ridge Learning Community is East Brainerd Elementary, but meals may also be picked up at Wolftever Creek Elementary. Students must be in the car in order to receive these meals.

*Field trips are being refunded. Central office is currently processing these refunds, beginning with trips that cost $10 or more. Those refunds will come to you in the next 2-3 weeks.

*Anyone who had medications at school may pick them up from the office during their office hours this Friday, March 20.

*Information on how to drop off work packets for this week is forthcoming. 3rd grade plans to offer work and lessons digitally for the foreseeable future.

I will be setting up online office hours using the Zoom website/app starting tomorrow or Thursday. The time will depend on when our daily meeting with admin is scheduled. I will notify you once a time has been set and give you the code to login to the meeting. I will set up meeting times for the adults but also for students who would like to check in, ask questions, share stories, or just say HI! (Zoom is available through Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Blackberry, and other platforms.)

Also, check out the FAQ section to the left for answers to some of your questions from the survey as well as suggestions for organization, home reading, etc.

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2020

What we know right now: Happy Monday! I hope you are all staying safe, well, and adequately socially distanced. :-) As most of you may have already seen, Hamilton County has decided to stay closed through the end of our originally scheduled spring break, which would put us back at school on April 13.  As of this moment, no changes have been made to the TCAP/TNReady testing schedule and currently expect to begin the week of April 20. As with everything so far, this is subject to change. We expect updates to come in daily and I will pass those along as we receive them. I understand 100% that being in a state of unknown isn’t ideal but this is really an unprecedented situation and every school and state in the country is trying to figure it out as we go...it’s just not something that could’ve ever been predicted.

Availability: I will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding assignments, schedules, etc. If I don’t know the answer, I will find someone who does. All Hamilton County teachers are on call this for the next few weeks (outside of spring break) preparing ways to deliver instruction to your children remotely. We are also aware that not all families have access to digital resources and we will work with you to accomodate your needs!

Assignments: This week students should continue to work on the packets that were sent home on Friday. The ELA portion contains reading passages as well as TCAP practice. There are two Readworks passages online that should be completed this week as well. I will check them daily and send them back out for revisions if needed. I am working on a list of assignments for next week and will have that out for you soon.
